Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah

to nurture and restore our connection to nature.

Role: Communications and Outreach Intern

At Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah, I designed visually engaging, nature-themed flyers in Canva to promote the Friends Plant Sale and conducted in-depth sweepstakes research to develop a comprehensive rule guide for the Friends Sweepstakes. I also conducted two interviews and wrote an article for the monthly newsletter about community members contributing to the wellness of Mt. Pisgah’s land, and collaborated with supervisors on those newsletters to keep supporters informed and engaged.

Throughout my time at Friends, I had the opportunity to interview and conduct research on individuals making meaningful differences for the organization.

Volunteer Spotlight: Georgie Olsgard

Meet Georgie, Mt. Pisgah's unofficial stool patrol. For nearly a decade, retired dog walker Georgie Olsgard has quietly kept the North Bottomlands and Coast Fork Trail cleaner, picking up 5-10 pounds of dog waste a day. What started as a game of fetch with her golden retriever became a daily mission to protect pets and people from the bacteria and viruses waste can carry. This piece shares her story and a simple reminder: bring a bag and pick up after your pup.

Friends’ Views for EPUD’s Green Grant Funds: A Chat With Brett Moser About a Potential Solar Array Installation at the Friends’ Headquarters

Brett Moser

Solar power for Buford Park. Consultant Brett Moser is helping Friends of Buford Park & Mt. Pisgah go after a $40,000 EPUD Green Grant to put 18 solar panels on their tractor barn, offsetting about 41% of their yearly energy use. Even in hydropower country, he says, local solar helps offset dirtier electricity sold elsewhere.
